Wilson Wonderground

The SPARK Park at Woodrow Wilson Montessori School, in the Montrose area, undertook a great transformation on Saturday, May 18. Dozens of volunteers, en masse, generously contributed to a wonderful community service event, by giving their time through planting, building, clean up and support work. Ms. Maureen McNamara, the park coordinator for the Wilson Montessori PTO, organized the overall development of this great, refreshed community park. Ms. Ikuko Qano, a member of the PTO’s Arts committee, planted the seed to install musical instruments in the park, for the children to explore and enjoy. Ernesto Alfaro and Marie Rodriguez, Wilson parents and designers, worked with their construction industry affiliations to bring the idea to fruition. They approached us to see if we knew anyone that would be able to help with the proper installation of precise musical instruments. INSIGHT saw this as an opportunity to give back to our community and said that we’d be willing to take the project on. In partnership with Leo Garcia (Garcia Concrete Contractors, Inc), we installed a very tall and impressive set of Contrabass Chimes in the park this past Saturday. We are grateful to have the ability to serve our neighborhood and community. If, by chance, you find yourself in the vicinity, stop by and enjoy the park and chimes– you’ll witness first-hand the transformations that can happen within our city.
